Mothers and Babies
Mothers & Babies is an interactive program with lessons and activities proven to promote healthy mood, bonding with one’s baby, and strategies for coping with stress, developed at Northwestern University. Home Visitors throughout Central Oregon have had training in this program and are implementing it now. The program can be delivered to pregnant women and new parents individually in one-on-one visits or in a group setting.
Early Care and Education
The Early Learning Hub of Central Oregon, with Early Care and Education partners, are in the process of gathering information to support an updated Early Care and Education (ECE) Strategic Plan. This ECE plan will help inform strategies aligned with Raise Up Oregon: Early Learning System Plan and investments from the Student Success Act. Early Care and Education and K-12 partners are invited to participate in local focus groups across the Region to share their perspective on strategies to support Kindergarten Readiness, and opportunities to support PreK to School alignment. We will also be gathering interest in opportunities to expand quality Preschool and Early Head Start programming.
Expanding Quality Child Care
Central Oregon is a Child Care Desert, which means there is one child care slot available for every three children. Recently the US Chamber Foundation came to Central Oregon to visit communities to find out more about this crisis. The Bend Chamber of Commerce is working on hiring a Child Care Accelerator to help navigate the child care system.
